Carbonation of concrete rubble based on the capture in aqueous solution of CO2 emissions by a continuous eco-responsible process
The main objective of my PhD is to develop an efficient process that uses the carbon dioxide as a reactant to carbonate the calcium present in concrete rubble. Not only it represents a large potential of CO2 storage in view of the waste generated by the demolition of buildings, but it would also generate a circular economy in the cement industry, by recovering the calcium carbonate that has precipitated and using it to produce new cement. Such a solution would drastically reduce the release of CO2 into the atmosphere from one of the most greenhouse gas emitting industrial sectors.
