The continuous rise in plastic production and accumulation has become a major environmental challenge, with global plastic waste reaching 400 million tons in 2024 (3.7 million in France). Recycling is therefore essential. Among different approaches, catalytic pyrolysis is a promising chemical recycling method that converts polyolefin-based plastics into valuable products such as aromatics, light olefins, and gasoline-range hydrocarbons.
The research is part of the PEPR Recyclage (Plastics program), funded by France 2030, which promotes innovative solutions for sustainable plastic waste valorization. It focuses on improving catalytic efficiency by coating ZSM-5 zeolites onto macroporous ceramic foams. The study optimizes the dip-coating process and evaluates catalyst performance in LDPE pyrolysis.
